Aside from the weak glow of faraway streetlamp, he could see only the pitch black night as hazel eyes fluttered open.
“Yato…” he rasped, rubbing his sleepy eyes as he sat up.
The longer he looked for him, the more he realised that Yato was nowhere to be found.
“Yato!” he called a little louder, answered with only the rustling of leaves and the creaking of the old shrine as a wind swept the clearing.
In the dark, it felt as though something were creeping up on him, and brushing his skin with cold fingers.
“Yato…!” he called again, to no avail.
Panicked, he scrambled up onto the bench where he’d last seen Yato fall asleep earlier that night. And with his knees hugged to his chest, he hung his head, shivering like the wind were blowing right through him.
Where’d you go… he wondered. Why did you leave me here?!
At the sound of footsteps crunching in the dirt, his hair stood on end, fearing the worst.
“Ah-” relieved to hear his voice, Yukine lifted his head to find Yato standing on the staircase of the abandoned shrine.
“What are you doing?”
“What am I…? What you doing?! I woke up and you weren’t here!”
“I was doing missionary work.” Yato explained, grinning like he’d done something horribly clever as he held up a spray paint can. “Our number’s on the fastest bullet train in the city!”
“…What the hell?” Yukine muttered at a length, after getting over the initial stupidity of what he’d said. “Who can read something written on a bullet train? Those things move way too fast!”
“Some people are fast readers!” Yato pointed out in his defense.
“Don’t fuck with me! You left for that?!” the blond snapped.
A silence suddenly fell over them. Despite the silence, Yato had heard, loud and clear, the words Yukine hadn’t said.
You left me here, alone, for that?!
The realisation hit him, and his face softened.
A little surprised by the apology, Yukine averted his gaze to the side.
“What are you apologising for…” he mumbled. “Moron…”
“No, I wasn’t really asking…”
He didn’t need to hear him say it; they already knew.
“Anyway, you should wake me up before you do something stupid.” the blond pouted.
“Che! How should I know what you deem stupid?!” Yato shouted, his hands balled into fists again.
“Ah… pretty much everything you do is stupid.” he said bluntly.
“…So just wake me up before you leave.”

"Was she really your girlfriend?" Yukine asked, as they walked home from Kofuku’s house.
"Hah?" Yato turned to look at him, and he felt his face burn, embarrassed about asking a question like that.
"Kofuku? Well, yeah. Kind of."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
Yato frowned. “I dunno, like, we don’t do any couple-y stuff because of Daikoku, but technically yeah, she is.”
Images flashed through Yukine’s head of Yato doing ‘couple-y’ stuff. He frowned at the thought of Yato holding Kofuku’s hand, because ewh, Yato’s hands were disgusting, and it was good for the girl that she didn’t have to do things like that.
Kissing, though, was something he couldn’t imagine Yato doing. And it was now killing him. He really wanted - no, he needed - to know if Yato had done it before.
It was an awkward question though, and he didn’t want to ask it. But then they got back to the shrine and Yato immediately lay down, clearly intending to sleep and Yukine frowned at the thought of having his curiosity haunt him for the entire night.
"Have you kissed her?"
Yato opened an eye and took in his embarrassed face before bursting out into laughter, causing him to shove his hands into his pockets and turn away.
"Of course, I have. Don’t you underestimate me and my kissing powers!"
Yukine snorted. “So what’s it like?”
"Kissing?" Yato’s face scrunched up in confusion. "Well, it’s pretty wet…and disgusting if you think about it, but it feels good so the disgusting part doesn’t matter."
Yukine tried to imagine Yato french-kissing someone and his cheeks heated up. No. Just no.
"Why would anyone want to kiss you…"
"HAH? WHY WOULDN’T THEY?!"
"So you’ll grant any wish, huh…"
Sitting crouched on the stairs of an abandoned shrine, a deep pout clouded Yukine’s face as he turned his head the other way.
“I wish you palms weren’t so sweaty.”
“GEH-!” wounded by his bluntness, Yato leapt up to his feet. “I DON’T GRANT WISHES FOR FREE, YOU KNOW?!”
At that, the blond swerved around and flung a five yen coin at him, watching it bounce off his forehead.
“Che…” kneeling down, Yato picked up the coin and slipped it into his pocket. “Yukine, your wish has been heard, loud and clear.”
In an instant, Yato’s demeanor had grown so serious Yukine couldn’t help but stare. His intensity mesmerised him a moment as their eyes met, before any admiration he felt suddenly flittered away with the wind as he watched Yato wipe his palms on his pant legs.
“They’re completely dry now.” he beamed, proudly holding them up for him to see.
“HAH?!” Yukine protested, standing up and pointing a finger at him. “YOU HARDLY DID ANYTHING!”
“Your wish has been granted!”
“I want my money back-“
